Sonneck Society for American Music
Bulletin, Volume XXIV, no. 1 (Spring 1998)
Letter from the Editor
Having just returned from the fine conference in Kansas City, my mind is still racing with new
ideas implanted by my fellow Sonneckers in many wonderful paper sessions and informal conversations.
Many of the papers that I heard were worthy of sharing with the members of the Society who could
not atend. Unfortunately, I could not attend all of the sessions, and I am sure that more of your
research is ideal for presentation in this publication. I welcome your submissions for consideration.
Please keep in mind the desired length for the publication is up to 3000 words. Appropriate topics
are those whose scope fits well in this size, as well as larger topics for which you desire a vehicle
to present your progress to the Society.
As noted earlier in this issue, this is the period of transition for new board members. I would
like to note in particular a transition in the Bulletin as well. Many of you will notice
that Ann Sears has retired as editor of reviews of recorded materials. I would like to join the
Society in thanking Ann for her years of service. Ann, your contributions to the
advancement of the study and performance of American Music are appreciated.
Many of you have noticed that each issue of the Bulletin is placed online approximately
three weeks after it appears in your mailboxes. To see it, point your browser to
http://iberia.vassar.edu/sonneck/sspubs.htm and
follow the links. If you have suggestions as to how the Bulletin may be best presented in its
Web configuration, please address them to me. I am always open to any suggestions so that
I can continue to learn how to serve the Society. I would like to thank our tireless webmistress,
Cheryl Taranto, for her efforts to keep us better connected.
Please keep me apprised of the news. The Bulletin is your voice to the world and the
world's window on Sonneck. Don't forget that the deadlines for Bulletin submissions are
announced in this publication. Please remember to expect a two-month lag time between submission
deadline and publication date. Plan ahead so that your submission may be printed in a timely fashion.
Sincerely,
Larry Worster
